Kill Me Heal Me Review

So lately, to releave stress, I have been bingeing on KDramas. I watched the last 5 episodes of the Heirs in one day, and even after that I was looking for more. After asking my friends (Kim YongJu & Baek WooSol) if they had any recommendations, they both had nothing bad to say about the drama Kill Me Heal Me.

I know Kill me Heal Me has been very popular in Korea when it aired, so I figured why not. I will give my review of the entire series hopefully without any spoilers.

Plot Line: The Lead Character is 20 something Heir Cha DoHyun who after a traumatic childhood has a multiple personality disorder that he keeps hidden from his family. After spending many years in the USA, he is dragged back to Korea (by one of his alter egos) in order to take his position as the rightful Heir to the family company. In order to keep his illness a secret, he confides in a first year psychiatrist, Oh RiJin to control his personalities and possibly heal him.

My Opinions on the Characters:

Cha DoHyun: This actor is AMAZING! His ability to portray these very…unique personalities is incredible! Varying from a violent soul to a 17 year old stalker fan girl, he plays each role in its entirety! 

Oh RiJin:…. Three words: Annying. As. Hell. Her fake laugh, over zealous personality is just painful enough to give me a headache. On a good note though, she does play the role of the “referee” between the personalities very well, and this annoying attitude does calm down about half way through the series.

Oh RiOhn: RiOhn is RiJin’s “twin brother”. I. LOVE. THIS. CHARACTER. He is so charmingly silly it makes me wish the show was about him. RiOhn is known as the “villiage idiot” when secretly is the bestselling author of this murder mystery series.

The best part had to be the ending! They wrapped everything up and it was perfect! The only other thing I could say is watch out for YoNa. Seriously, that girl be cray.

Overall I give this drama a 4/5. Now onto this weeks words!

So Lately, to release stress, I have been going a little over board on Kdrama's. I watched the last 5 episodes of The Heirs in one day, and even after that I was still looking for more. After asking my friends 김 영주 (Kim Yongju) & 백 우솔 (Baek woosol )if they had any recommendations, they both had nothing bad to say about the drama 킬 미 힐 미(Kill Me Heal Me).

I know Kill Me Heal me has been very very popular in Korea for the past few months so I figured why not.

I will give you my review of the entire series hopefully without any spoilers.

Plot Line: The lead character is a 20-something Cha Do Hyun who after a traumatic childhood experience developed DID, Dissociative Identity Dissorder also known as Multiple Personalities Disorder. After spending many years in the US, he is dragged back to Korea in order to take his position as rightful heir to the family company. In order to keep his illness a secret, he confides in a 1st year psychiatrist, Oh Rijin to subdue his personalities.

My Opinion:

The plot was something very unique! After having growning up around people with bipolar disorder, I was curious to see how this would play out. Obviously it the main actor could have been terrible at switching personalities at the drop of a hat, or was going to be so amazing it would knock me off my feet.

Characters:

Cha Do Hyun: This actor is AMAZING!! His ability to portray these very...unique personalities is incredible! Varying from a Violent Soul to a 17 year old Idol Crazy girl, he plays each role in its entirety! What I find funny is that in a way, he is the main character and the second leading male. If you watch it you will understand why.

• Seggi: The violent heart throb of the bunch, he is the personality that is that bad boy you want to love but know you shouldn't.
• Yoseob: A 17 year old boy who has his heart set on killing himself and taking everyone with him.
• YoNa: Yoseob's twin sister who is obsessed with the color pink, pretty things, and meeting all of her "Oppa's" (Idols).
• Perry Park: A trouble making old man who loves to drink and play with explosives.
• Nana: A young girl.
• Mr. X: A mysterious magician with a father-like quality.

Oh Ri Jin:...Three words: ANNOYING.AS.HELL. Her fake laugh, over zealous personality is just painful to watch in the beginning of the show. Once she is knocked off her high horse though, she becomes tolerable. On a good note though, she does play the role of the "referee" between the personalities very well.

Oh Ri Ohn: Ri Ohn is Ri Jin's "twin brother".  I. Love. This. Character. He is so charmingly silly it makes me wish the show was about him. However, he does have a sense of mystery  about him that makes his character not just silly, but also deep and serious.

After just recently finishing this drama, I have to say I was most impressed with the ending. Most of the drama's I have seen in the past either:

1. Don't wrap things up and leave you hanging.
2. Try to wrap things up but fail miserably by forgetting like major points of the story line.
3. End perfectly. Everything is clear, and there is no open ending.

Of course the 3rd option is a rare occurrence, but for Kill Me Heal Me, it was perfect.  So perfect I cried I might add, considering I never cry. 

The only other warning I have for you is watch out for Yo Na....Seriously, that girl is crazy.

Overall, I would seriously recommend this drama to everyone I know! Even the ones that do not have the patients for subtitles. This show would probably change their minds.

Gelous & Ever Last Nail Polish Review

Hi everyone! So lately I have had the urge to paint my nails. But of course I forgot how easily my nails chip (because I type on a keyboard like a speed demon and work with my hands). No lie I will do my nails in the morning, and by the evening I am usually picking at the chipped pieces of polishes that remain on my nails.

I tried gel polish a few months ago, and sure it lasted a week or so, but it also made my nails really really weak. There was no way I could use that on a regular basis.

After watching some reviews on youtube (and finding most of them to be a bunch of bs) I decided to go to Sally's (beauty store). Lucky me I found two products:

• Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat, which a couple youtubers raved about saying it lasted up to 11 days (needed to see if that was accurate.)

• China Glaze Ever Glaze, which is a new product I decided to try because there was a sale of buy one get one free. 

First I decided to try the New China Glaze product. With China Glaze being one of my favorite brands, I had high hopes for this product.

Here were the instructions:

• There is no base coat for this brand, so clean your nails and apply 2 coats of the Ever Glaze polish of your choice. 
• Once your base coat is dry apply the Ever Glaze "Active top coat"

So here is my week of wearing China Glaze Ever Glaze:

Day 1: 

After prepping my nails, I applied two thin coats of the polish coastal mist (left) and NY slate of mind (right). I found it didn't take to long to dry before I could put on the top coat.

Also: The nails were soooo shiny! (in the pic's they may look a little matte. That is because stupid me out of habit I applied my opi nail envy in Matte ontop of it. ) So far so good.

Day 5: 

The polish is still standing! Besides some small, itty bitty chips that you wouldn't notice unless you grabbed my hand & held it to your face; It's still looking pretty good. I am pretty impressed considering all of the typing, sewing, and roughhousing with the dog I did in that week.

So on Day 5, I figured it was proof enough for me that this product really works! With that in mind, I cleaned my nails and tried my other option: Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat.

Because there are no instructions on the bottle (and it didn't come in a box) I assumed you used it like a regular base coat.

That's where I went wrong.

The polish I used was the quick dry by Sally Hansen and after applying a top coat, not 2 hours later, my nails chipped.

I was so pissed off! How could those people say this product could help your "mani" last up to ELEVEN days!? So I went back to my computer and found out that I was using the Gelous base coat all wrong!

So here is my new process. I cannot recall who's video I got this information from but thanks! 

1. 2 coats of Gelous base coat
2. 1 coat of regular polish
3. 1 coat of Gelous base coat
4. 1 coat of regular polish
5. 1 coat of a top coat of your choice.

So really, it's all about the layering.

Ok, here we go! Here is my week:

Day 1: 

Ok so I followed the instructions and topped my polish off with my essie top coat. The color of my polish is Mauvie Night by pop-arazzi (a new brand at CVS).

It's super shiny and they even survived my dog gnawing at my fingers for a good hour.

Day 3: 

So literally, all I did was pull on a pair of jeans and my nails chipped. my fingers were chipped along with the polish on my thumb came right off. I am not sure if it was the gelous that was weak or this brand of nail polish.

So either the Gelous base coat isn't as perfect as they claim, or I am so violent with my nails that I could be arrested for abuse.

The Verdict:

The winner is clearly the China Glaze Ever Glaze! In fact, after day 3 of the Gelous I got so upset that it chipped that I repainted my nails with Ever Glaze. 

Here are the pro's and con's of the products:

Ever Glaze:

Pros:

• Long lasting without any touchups.
• Very shiny
• Beautiful colors

Cons:

• Because it's a new product there is a limited color selection.

Gelous:

Pros:

• Very shiny
• you can use it with any regular polish.

Cons:

• Not long lasting for those who work with their hands.

SHUTUP.....Let's Go Crazy With Hangul!

First things first....

Hi ^^. Right now I am to frustrated with my teacher to study so I thought I should at least write a new post.

I decided it's time to buckle down and try my best to show you how I learned how to remember the Korean alphabet. So here we go.

When I first decided I wanted to try to teach myself Korean, I did the worst thing possible: I bought a bunch of random Korean books. They were so expensive and in the end, they didn't even teach the alphabet!

Feeling miserable (and out of $$) I went into the iTunes app store hoping to find something free to help me. After downloading a ton of free Hangul apps, I stumbled upon the best teacher ever! The app is called TenguGo Hangul and personally, for a free app, it's the best!!

This app does everything from the basic stroke order of every letter, to how to write in the block system! It also goes into great detail about how each letter sounds with audio.

 

The best part about this app is it also has quizzes for you to take as practice. You can take them as often as you want in order to make sure you understand every letter.

 

 

Of course long after learning Hangul (maybe like a 2 year break) I found talktomeinkorean.com. The books are wonderful and easy to understand not to mention the teachers audio podcasts make learning fun as they joke around. In the workbook, there is a brief description of the Korean alphabet which is nice if you are just learning or need a refresher.

Because I am still learning Korean, I don't feel like I'm the best to teach the alphabet to you all but if you have any questions just comment and I will do my best to answer them ^ ㅅ ^.

Now that you have the tools to read and write in Korean, here is our words of the week.

Korean Slang (As taught by my amazing 언니 Hyea)

닥쳐 - Shutup

Romanization: dakjo

Sounds Like: Doc-Joe

미친 - Crazy (adj.)

Romanization: Michin

Sounds Like: Mich ' in

You might also hear this word as  미쳐 (michyo)

Now there has to be about 100 songs that are titled "crazy" or some form of "미친" but one of the most recent songs that is crazy popular is 미쳐 (crazy) by 4Minute

So really, now if someone calls you crazy you can tell them to shutup ㅋㅋㅋ (its like lol).

My pretty followers....I'm back!

ㅠㅠ Hey guys...it feels like I abandoned my blog "child" only to come back as a proud mother! lol When I last checked my posts in August '14, I only had 80 views and now I have over 900! What an amazing feeling.

Soon after my "Eyes, Nose, Lips, & Perler Beats" post, I managed to get myself a full time position where I work as a receptionist. Growing  accustomed to long hours and working five days a week wore me out for a while, but also brought a lot of great new opportunities! I found more time to practice and "hone" my Korean skills (with the help of my new friend Hyea who lives in Korea) and open my very own shop on Etsy (you can find out more information about my shop in my about me)! One of the residents at my work gave me the idea, and it is fantastic to know I have over 50 people supporting me in my endeavors.

Although  I feel ready to get into the habit of posting more frequently, I am worried of abandoning my baby again due to school clawing its way back into my life. With school, I study online through one of my local colleges which is nice ;however, I take up so much of my free time. But enough about school. Let's talk about how I met my wonderful Korean friend Hyea.

There is an app for iTunes and Android called Hello Talk. It brings together people who are in the process of learning other languages. Now, I have made several good friends on Hello Talk, but none of them beat my 언니 (eonni/a girls big sister) Hyea. She is kind, funny, and very smart. We have quite a bit in common and I have grown very fond of her. She helps me when I have questions, and doesn't mind correcting me when I'm wrong. The best part about Hello Talk is learning the conversational aspect of whatever language you are learning. Most books or classes only teach the basics of languages but not the slang. From my books, there are very little lessons on slang, but with the help of my Korean friends, I can have short conversations! I cannot believe how much I have grown with my languages skills within the last few months. I went from knowing random words, to knowing over 20 phrases! Swear, it is super helpful.

In honor of Hyea, I will be teaching 2 new words each post. 1 slang word (that we will be learning together as Hyea teaches them to me ^ ㅅ ^ )  & 1 from a kpop song.

Slang (as taught to me by Hyea)

멘붕 - Mental Breakdown.

Romanization: menboong

Sounds like: men-boo-ng

Note: is actually made up of small parts of two other words.

멘 is from 멘달 (mental) which means mental

and

붕 is from 붕괴 (boonggwi) which means breakdown

Hyea's example:  "You are watching a child, and the child spills food everywhere. You would have a 멘붕"

*You may also know this word from CL's solo song called Mental Breakdown*

Popular Korean Words Found in Kpop

예쁘다 -  To be pretty

Romanization: yeppuda

Sounds like: yeh-poo-duh

Note: All verbs end in 다 (da)

Eyes, Nose, Lips & Perler Beads

Hello everyone! It's been a crazy couple of weeks with work and crochet deadlines that I've barely had time to write anything. But now I'm at work, the old people are all asleep (I work at a retirement home) and I'm ready to show you all my perler beads. Now I'm sure most of you have no idea what I'm talking about. Perler beads are these small cylinder beads that can be melted together to create just about anything you want. Some may remember making them as children, but trust me it has come a long way since then. Now, young adults and adults alike create giant pieces of art that are so insane it's hard to believe it's hand made.

As you can see Perler bead art can range from cute and small to large and incredible!

Although I am not as experienced as those artists, I work hard to create what I can, mainly chibi pixel art, animals, cartoon characters, and kpop related art.

Although most of my perler patterns I did not make, simply tweaked to fit what I needed, I found it super convenient to use an Embroidery/Cross Stitch pattern creator to make perfect patterns for perler art. Embroydery(cross stitch) art patterns are normally pixelized and shown on a grid with little squares showing you what colors come next, and what it should look like in the end. Of course with anything pixelized, it can also make the final piece of art a lot bigger than intended.

The website I used to make patterns is called pic2pat.com . All you need is a picture (plus fiddling with the measurements until it looks right). It's really easy to sue and helps you on your way to creating something incredible.

Perler beads normally come in individual color packs (1000 count) or in a large tub mixed randomly. I prefer the individual packs because it is quick and easy to move them into my perler storage unit.

Before this baby, I had been "living on the edge" keeping my beads in open bags. Of course this was not the brightest idea especially after dropping the bags and getting beads everywhere. (You wouldn't believe how many beads I still step on to this day) I got the unit at Menards for $19, which may seem a little pricey but it was worth it.

~Tips & Tricks to Perler~

(1)  Always use parchment paper instead of wax paper when melting your beads. If you use wax paper, it will just melt the wax paper to the beads and leave big white marks on your finished project. It's also a huge pain in the butt to get off of the beads in the end.

(2) Sometimes your beads will shift. I recommend a toothpick or tweezers to adjust them. If you try to use your fingers, you could knock into your art and destroy it all.

(3) Always work on a flat surface and a low traffic area like your personal table or desk that nobody else uses. The last thing you want is your mom, brother, sister, aunt somebody coming by, bumping the table and the beads all scatter. It's not pretty.

Alright now it is time for the Korean word of the week.

This week it was difficult picking just what work I should use, and after playing with a few words, I realized that it would be good to go over the Korean alphabet. So my next post will be all about the alphabet. But until then let's learn a set of  three easy words.

눈,코,입

(1) 눈
Romanization: nun
Pronunciation: n-uh-n
Translation: eyes

(2) 코
Romanization: ko
Pronunciation: go
Translation: nose

(3) 입
Romanization: im/ip
Pronunciation: like him without the H, but can also sound like hip without the H
(ill get to that in the next post)
Translation: lips

To show you an example of these three words is easier than it may look. I will have to give props to Taeyang of Big Bang for making my job so much easier with this song eyes nose lips.

My Conch Piercing & Kpop Word of the Week!

Hey Everyone! Or should I say 안녕하세요( annyeonghaseyo )! So I'm Meg and this is my first blog post YAY! *throws confetti*

I am super excited to talk to everyone about my brand new inner conch piercing! For those of you who don't know, the conch is that inner grove of your ear that has super thick cartilage. 

Now, I currently have my lobe pierced twice on each ear, my cartilage (outer conch) on my right ear, and now my inner conch on my left ear. 

When I was deciding what kind of piercing I should get, my friend Areli told me about the conch piercing. Not knowing what that was, I immediately looked it up to find some really cool pictures.

When I told my family about it, they cringed at the idea, but hell, if I could go through reconstructive knee surgery, I could get my conch pierced. After realizing I couldn't get this done just anywhere, I turned to the only tattoo parlor I knew of: The Jade Dragon in Chicago.

When I called to check their prices, I was a bit shocked at the prices, but I didn't want to take my chances with any tattoo parlor and risk an unclean environment. The prices for a single conch piercing was this:

$60 for the piercing

$?? for the jewely.

Walking in to the Jade Dragon, exactly a week ago, with a wallet full of birthday money (July 21st I turned 22 whoop), I hoped it would be enough. I ended up paying a total of $86 including a tip for my piercer. I had gone in the middle of the day to avoid the crowds ( because who wants to have an anxiety attack in the middle of a place full of needles: NOT I). The piercer showed me the tiny barbell that would be lodged in my ear and I could feel my stomach drop. I guess the guy could tell I was nervous because he started making jokes and small talk as he sat me down and cleaned my ear. It helped a lot, and in a matter of seconds it was over. My piercer then gave me a bar of antibacterial, non scented soap to clean my ear with;  however, I found it more effective to soak my ear in warm, non iodine sea salt water for about 10 minutes. I also use a Q-tip and some lefter over piercing solution to do a quick clean. 

Now, you might be wondering about the level of pain. When I did my research, 80% of the people who got their inner conch done said it hurt more when they got it done that other piercings. I disagree. Like any other piercing there is a sting, a throb, and a slight ache. Here was my week.

pain scale: 0= least painful - 10= most painful

day 1: pain = 3

Day 1 was no bid deal, well, until I forgot the bar was there and yanked off my shirt, snagging the ball. It's liked that moment of shock immediately after you stub your toe. Sleeping was no big deal cause I don't sleep on that ear.

day 2-3: pain=1

No pain whatsoever. 

day 4: pain= 8 1/2

I was in extreme pain. My ear was scalding hot compared to my other ear, sore and throbbing. It even left me with a massive migraine!  After taking some excederine, my ear cooled off and I felt fine. I havent have any problems since then.

day 5-7: pain = 0-1

no pain ^^

So now I am able to twist and turn my barbell to get the crusties out (yes there is goop and a small amount of blood that seep out every now and then). Obviously after a week it's not healed, but it is feeling much more comfortable. 

알았어 (ah-rah-so) Okay so now, to finish off my first post, I want to try out  a new segment I hope to continue at the end of every post! 

disclaimer: Now I am not of the asian persuasion, but I am slowly learning korean through Kdrama's and KPOP/KRAP songs, and I would like to share the words I know with you all that may not know, or are also trying to learn. .

So this posts word is:

사랑해 

romanization: saranghae

Pronounced: sah-rahng-hey

Translation: I love you

Base Word: Sarang  사랑 (love)

I find it much easier to learn Korean words when I hear them in music or on kdramas. 

Saranghae is a very common word one will hear in kpop songs since most of them will be about love.

One of my favorite examples of Saranghae would be the song 나랑하고 싶어 (sarang-hago shipo) a.k.a I wanna love.

So 감사합니다 (kam-sah-ham-ni-da) or in english THANK YOU and Saranghae to all of my new readers!
